TOMMY NEWMAN is a published playwright, composer and lyricist. 2013 ASCAP Foundation Cole Porter Award Winner, recipient of an Anna Sosenko Assist Trust Grant, 2025 Pipeline Arts Foundation Grant, 2014 Kennedy Center ACTF National Musical Theatre Award Winner. Recent works include: With Bells On (Theatre Network, Edmonton, Canada— created with Dev Janki and Darrin Hagen, developed with Live and In Color), Savage, created with Karla Koskinen, and Jaime Lozano (commissioned in 2017 by UAB), Jenny's Damned Ex with Jessica Mazaheri, Our Lady of 7-Eleven, Songs of Light and Joy: A Diwali Celebration, and Private Lives: the Musical with Devanand Janki. His work has been featured in Jaime Lozano's Songs by an Immigrant Volumes 2 and 3. Tommy is currently a professor with Troy University's Department of Theatre and Dance in Troy, AL.
He holds a BS in Music Education from Troy University and an MFA in Musical Theatre Writing from NYU Tisch.
