The Single Girl's Guide
In the stylish world of 1964 Manhattan, newspaper columnist Emma Woodhouse is about to turn 30, and she’s still single. As her father urges her to marry the first available man – and her editor urges her to toe the line, she transforms her household advice column into a platform for change, encouraging readers to drop their casseroles, question the nature of marriage and demand sexual freedom.
In an inspired move, Emma recruits her first ‘Single Girl’ – a dental hygienist from Rhode Island - and vows to overhaul her life. This sets into motion a chain of events that lands Emma in a new job working for suave but secretive tobacco king TR Elton - and culminates in hilarious calamity at Truman Capote’s legendary Black and White Ball.
Filled with the buoyant sounds and bright spirit of the mid-1960s, The Single Girls Guide is Jane Austen meets Helen Gurley Brown in a musical that questions marriage, sex, and the joys of being single.
